Arizona school shooting: Murder-suicide of 2 involved 15-year-old girls, police

Two teens died at Arizona School Shooting
The Ariona school shooting of two 15-year-old girls that were romantically involved at Independence High School in the Phoenix suburb of Glendale was a murder-suicide, according to a police report. Evidence from the shooting scene seems to indicate that one girl first killed the other girl and then herself. Authorities also discovered a suicide note.
Friday’s Arizona school shooting resulted in an investigation, according to a February 12 Reuters report. However, after reviewing all the evidence and circumstances of the shooting, police are looking for no other suspects.
"Information gathered by detectives reveals the two girls were very close friends, appearing to also be in a relationship," and no other suspects are being sought, a police statement said.
According to Glendale police spokeswoman Tracey Breeden, the high school was placed on lockdown after shots had been fired. The street in front of the school complex was shut down and all students remained in secure locations.
At the time of the shooting, shortly before 8 a.m., some students were still in front of the school. One witness reports that at first it was unclear what the sound was:
"Me and my friend were in front of the school and we heard like, two loud shots, and we thought it was just someone popping a bag or something," the student said. "We didn't know what it was, and then the bell rang and we went to class."
The bodies of the two girls were found near the cafeteria under a covered patio. Each of the girls died of a single gunshot wound. The gun was found by police next to their bodies.
The identities of the two girls who died on Friday is being kept away from the public since they are minors. Glendale PD Chief Debora Black describes Friday’s Arizona school shooting a tragic incident that “reminds us of the prevalence of suicide in our communities” especially among young adolescents who are in a challenging relationship.
