Nigerians divided over Adeboye's visit to Buhari

– Pastor Enoch Adeboye visited Aso Rock today, and Nigerians are divided on the pertinence of his visit – Some Nigerians believe that their has to be a clear distinction between state and religion – Other citizens opine that the visit is time and can be used as a unifying too for an imploding Nigeria Heated arguments are ongoing on socio-media over the august visit of Pastor Enoch Adeboye in Aso Rock earlier on Tuesday, February 16. Pastor Adeboye had visited President Buhari at the Presidential Villa earlier today and the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) spiritual leader had a meeting with the president and his vice, Prof Yemi Osinbajo.
Skeptics, critics and pessimists There were Nigerians who believe like the saying of old that ” Nothing good can come from Nazareth”. These critics argued that the visit whose true essence and outcome could not be ascertained as of the time, was of no valid benefit to the Nigerian people. According to Shola Adekeye, “Men of God should visit less of political offices, lest their messages be misjudged! There are orphanages, hospices, prisons and other charity homes begging for attention.”

Omonile Mayowa said: “All these ‘Babalawo’ pastors who will continue to run to Aso Rock to beg for money should remember that there is God! The people will be suffering and they will never raise their voice, as far as as they get fat brown envelopes to lay their hand on the president for few minutes. Prominent men of God like Bishop Desmond Tutu, Martin Luther King Jr, Cardinal Onayekan have always stood behind the poor masses. Was this not the same Adeboye whom Jonathan was running to after destroying the country? the question I continue to ask is how many times have you seen the Imam or Islamic leaders visit Aso Rock, are they not Nigerians too?” Chris Jay who took a swipe at the media, said: “If Mbaka visits Buhari now, the media will go agog and shamefully, some Catholics will go on criticising one of their own for no just cause. I am sure Adeboye also went to collect Ghana-must-go of money as it was alleged in Mbaka’s case.” In line with Mayowa’s thoughts, Kazeem M Abiodun said:  “That man (Adeboye) prayed for Jonathan in 2010, we all know what happened to him in 2015. Buhari better be careful so we don’t substitute God with man.” Abubakar As’Sadiq shared a similar views, he was of the opinion that “most of these pastors are hypocrites”. Adding: “So after decieving Jonathan, they have now
decide to go to Buhari. Baba be careful oooo” CJ CJ said: “These so called self proclaimed men of God, what they see in politics is beyond understanding. Moving from one evil political office to another, i don’t beleive there’s even one pastor/priest etc that are working for God in this so called Nigeria; all of them are vampires looking for brown envelope.” On his part, Clinton Ojochegbe Peter said: “So Pastor Adeboye finally you got the opportunity that you’ve been looking for since you campaigned for Jonathan against buhari and your own pastor Osinbajo in the last election hahahahaha lol nobody no tomorrow we need to be very careful in decision thanks” Advocates of the masses and defenders of the economy Some citizens went beyond the face value of the visit, looking at how it could translate to an economic change, and how the masses can benefit from a perfect fusion or occasional interference religion into state affairs. Mark-Denis Udemba said: “Let all this handshakes and continued smiles with men of
God translate into good governance and end the hardships millions of Nigerians are currently going through please wake up.” In echoing Udemba’s view, Aliyu Azuka Efebeli said: “Hope he is not coming to beg on behalf of CAN who collected N5 billion during campaign because Buhari will ask his security agents to throw him out of the window.” Gift Ikwuobodo made an appeal saying: “Please pastor, let him know how the poor masses are suffering because of the bad economy and the dollar issue, don’t just meet him and collect money and pray for him and just leave without you letting him know that Nigerians are suffering.” Joshua Ojile said: “He needs more of Pastor Adeboye prayers, when there is no hope for our economy to rise up, when hunger and starvation is blowing on high degrees in Nigeria, when he cannot fulfil any of his promise.I needs pastors prayer.” De-Living Saint Mikel G said: “O please tell him dollar is now N365, 00 per $1, and that businesses are closing down, and that people are now saying.. Chaii Baba instead of Sai Baba, least I forget my G O, don’t tell him it is Well oo, because it is not.”
Pro-Buharists, positive thinkers and prayer warriors Some other Nigerians stood in the gap to defend President Buhari, extol; his leader ship and tried to see the positive side of the prominent pastor’s visit to Aso Villa. Olufemi Adetola said: “And some naive and ignorant Christian scholars allowed themselves to be fooled by self-centered politicians, making them to believe that Buhari was an Islamic fundamentalist who would Islamize Nigeria. I think this is clear enough. “I am a Christian and I voted Buhari.I ain’t regretting my action. You don’t consider religion or ethnicity when it comes to leadership. You only need a sincere man who is ready to be a servant to lead!” Adetola concluded by pledging allegiance to the Buhari-led administration with the tag #iStandWithBuhari. Enyinwa Okechukwu Enyinwa also said: “Buhari will turn Nigeria into an Islamic country! Buhari is a Muslim fanatic!! Buhari is Boko Haram!! But what I am seeing here is a great president with a good heart, smiling and surrounded by 2 pastors. Keep
riding on my humble president let them keep hating.” Ehase Omama’s said: “PMB indeed you’re trained from you father how to give respect, see how is full of joy as he set his eyes on Pastor E.A Adeboye, may God help our president and his V.P.  Let the lovers of our country Nigeria and her unity, peace and progress, lets go on our kneel and pray for this country.” On her take on the august visit, Emem Ita said: “God bless Pastor Enoch Adeboye! God bless President Buhari! God bless the Vice President! God bless my country, Nigeria! May the good Lord bless you all with the wisdom to run the affairs of this great nation. I love my country.” Adukwu Gabriel berated those who had negative takes on Adeboye’s visit, She said: “Ignorance they say is a disease. Pastor Adeboye is not a hungry Pastor,  for those who care to know, in 2014 annual Abuja Holy Ghost service He(pastor Adeboye) declared that Nigeria really needs a change and today what do we have. He also said that God told Him that the destiny of Nigeria was already determined in 2014 there was not going to be blood shed, was there any? PMB and Vice visited him in the camp ground Lagos didn’t he pray for them to succeed? But when Jonathan visited, he prayed for him
as the head of our nation? Please mind the way you criticize good, God fearing Men of God. Watch youur tongue!” She warned. Ifeanyi Eze said: “It’s is finished.. the war is over.. this guy is too meek for my liking.. long live Mr president.” “It’s is not easy to control a family.. it’s war when you marry two wives.. when you have 180 million to care for at same time it’s hard. “This guy has done what people taught is not possible… But trying to mix kerosene and palm oil will make the substance useless.. The opposites will never attract. “Advise him to let the Israelite to go.. so his second term will be easy for him.. Jonathan made history A1.. he should try and make geography A1 too” Ifeanyi added. Muhammed Abubakar Sodeeq took a deeper view into the visit saying: “When he appoints a Muslim they complain, when he appoints a Christian they complain, when he appoints from the north they complain, when he appoints from the west they still complain. “When Buhari appoints from both east and south they still complain. He hosted
Muslim clerics they say he is trying to Islamize the nation. “He hosts a Christian cleric they still complain. He travels they say he travels toomuch. He stays at home, they say he is not healthy.” “This reminds me of 2face Idibia’s song (If no body talks about you, then you are nobody), may God almighty be with our darling president. Baba go slow n steady. Masu gudu sugudu….. Say Baba Buhari” Muhammed buttressed. Bymbur Ariyibi Tijani was of the opinion that: “You can never separate politics from religion. People should stop insulting the religious leaders and give them the respect they deserve. Let God be the judge of all our leaders be it Muslim or Christian. Practice what they preach and not what they do.” Daniel Kc who was captivated by the smiles of Buhari, Osinbajo and Pastor Adeboye, said: “I love the spirit of unity in this cute picture….. forward ever, backward never….. my beautiful country Nigeria!”. “Pastor Adeboye’s visit is a blessing, for the President, Vice President, Aso rock and Nigeria.” Dayo Akogun opined. Adding: “Don’t speak evil of the man of God lest you

Adding: “Don’t speak evil of the man of God lest you attract God’s wrath upon yourselves.”
Like a benediction, Olawunmi Olatunji made a strong case for unity and oneness. “We are one nation! God bless Nigeria! God Bless our country,” Olatunji emphatically said.
