Celine Dion did not want
to lose husband and manager Rene Angélil's guiding hand from her life, so prior
to his death, she had a gold cast made of her husband's hand.
Angelil, who passed away on Jan. 14, allowed the
singer to make the memento as a way to have him with her when he became too ill
to attend her Vegas residency shows.
According to Entertainment Tonight, the performer always held
her husband's hand before going on stage.
When Dion finally returned to her Vegas
residency after taking a year off to care for her ailing husband, she had the
cast made so she could touch his hand for good luck.
During a memorial for Angélil at the Colosseum
on Wednesday, each person who spoke would touch the hand as they took to the
stage to speak.
During the memorial, Dion spoke lovingly of her
late husband.
"René never hated anyone," the Grammy
Awards singer stated.
"Is it possible someone loves
everybody? I don't think so. But he never told me a person he disliked...Time
was precious to him. He loved life so much. He loved life. So very much. And
life loved him," she shared of the love of her life.
The two shared many years and ups and downs
together during their 20 years of marriage, but some of the most touching
memories came from most recently, as Dion shared of a time when the two were
spending a quiet afternoon watching television together.
"He thought I was so good. I knew the
prices of everything," Dion laughed.
"I'm the one who orders the stuff online,
so I know what I'm talking about. All this to tell you that I was watching
'Family Feud' and 'The Price Is Right' with him, and he was crying when the
person at the end of the show won the showcase! A brand new car and a trip to
Hawaii. The person was winning and he was like, 'I'm so happy for them!'"
she smiled.
Dion has not yet revealed when she will take the
concert stage once again.
