By now, just about the whole world knows how
much Beyoncé got
into formation and slayed at the
Super Bowl. Queen Bey was promoting a lot on Sunday: a hugelyimportant
political message, her new album, her tour, Dsquared2, Givenchy, but also
somewhat surprisingly, Airbnb. On Monday after her performance, the superstar Instagrammed
several photos of herself sprawled out in front of a giant
infinity pool and modern fire pit overlooking the San Francisco Bay Area,
prompting fans and followers to wonder where Mrs. Carter spent the night after
she dropped the mic on the Levi’s Stadium football field. Turns out that she
rented a $10,000 per night
Airbnb for the weekend. That lofty price got the Carter family
five bedrooms, eight baths, a game room, fitness center, sweeping views, and
even a rooftop vegetable garden.
While
home sharing began as an affordable alternative to hotels for the average
traveler, it’s now officially moved into celebrity territory. A few weeks ago,
Airbnb got plugged by Goop master Gwyneth Paltrow, when she posted her Puerta Vallarta rental
villa to her social media feed with the caption, “@airbnb who knew??” Other
stars did know however, like Mariah Carey, who recently stayed inanother $10,000
Airbnb property in Malibu at Carbon Beach. Other famous fans
include Shailene Woodley, Olivia Palermo, and Ashton
Kutcher (who is also an investor in the company).
Beyoncé
can make anything become a “thing,” whether it’s carrying hot sauce in your bag
or sporting a bedazzled Bulls jersey bodysuit. Airbnb was already popular among
mere mortals, but we’re guessing this post–Super Bowl plug will have more big
names considering the more exclusive listings. Stars—they’re just like us.
Right?
